Einhell have numerous drills in their line up, and in this review, I’ll be looking into how well it performs in a variety of tasks and why, thanks to its great quality, you should be picking up one for yourself.

How I Tested This Drill

I used this drill as a way to put together a flat pack book case from Ikea. I also used it to screw in wooden fence rails to post, and subsequently used it to screw in the fence slats to the rails.

The screws I used did not need a pilot hole for them, but whilst doing this, I used the drill function on it as opposed to the screwdriving function. I also tested the drill by using the impact function by drilling into brickwork.

Outside of this testing process, I have also used the drill for various other DIY tasks. These have tallied up in excess of 30 hours of real time use.

What’s Included In The Kit

The TP-CD 18/70 comes with an Einhell, high quality E case which allows you to safely store and carry out around the drill. There are also 2 2Ah hour batteries included, along with a charger. Einhell include an additional handle in the kit, which can be swapped around to each side of the drill depending on if you’re left or right handed.

Build Quality & Features

The drill is of exceptionally high quality. It is made from plastic, metal and also rubber in different areas. I found that the rubber handles on it provides excellent levels of grip.

The metal chuck is also strong and holds the bits in securely. With respect to the trigger, this is a variable speed one; the harder you push, the faster the drill will spin. I like that it is easy to switch the direction of the drill, perfect for screwing and unscrewing.

The drill also has a 2 speed clutch, making it ideal for when you need that bit of extra control. There are also 21 different torque settings for when you need to have additional torque for different materials that you’re drilling into. These settings are easy to switch, but not something that could be done accidentally.

Unlike other drills at this price point, the TP-CD 18/70 has a brushless motor in it which provides 70nm of torque. The benefit of this is that it is not only more energy efficient, but it will also have a longer lifespan than a motor which uses brushes.

There is an LED light included on the base of the unit, this is a nice feature, but also not overly bright.

During the 30+ hours of use, I have not noticed any wear to the handle on the drill, nor have I noticed any issues with the trigger on it.

Battery Life and Charging Time

Einhell have suggested that you could screw in approx. 290 screws which are 6 x 60mm using the 2Ah battery when using it for soft timber. In my testing, this was closer to 270 screws. However, this timber was of a medium hardness and using the drilling function, which will use a bit more power.

With respect to the charger, only one battery can be charged at a time. The charging time for this was 45 minutes which is very impressive.

I had also charged up both batteries several times and left them for 5 weeks to see if there was any battery drain. I’m pleased to say that neither battery had drained whilst they were stored in the case.

I also found that even though it was a 2Ah battery, I never felt as though the drill was underpowered. These batteries can also be used on other members of the power exchange tools from Einhell.

Much like I haven’t experienced any wear on the drill during the 30+ hours of testing, I have not observed any degradation of the battery life either.

Results

When using this as a screwdriver to build the Ikea flat pack book case, I was also to do this quickly. Thanks to the fine control with the trigger, it meant that I wasn’t in danger of over tightening the screw, and therefore causing damage to it, or the furniture.

With respect to putting in the fence rails and slats, it worked exceptionally well. I used 18 rails and 125 fence slats. I was able to complete the installation using this drill in 3 hours. This involved using 6 screws per slat into the rails. The wood used was pressure treater timber.

I needed to use three batteries for this, but due to how quick the battery charges, I was able to carry on the job with the second battery whilst the other was charging. It should also be noted that the 3 hours also included me levelling up each slat and making sure that there was the perfect gap between each of them.

With respect to the brick work, I used a masonry bit to drill holes of various sizes into the them. I found that it did a good job in drilling the holes, and I was able to take my time to get a great finish. This is where the additional handle really comes into its own as it allowed me to apply the right amount of pressure to the drill so that it wouldn’t dance around on the brick.

During my time testing this, I did not suffer from any hand fatigue. It was easy to swap out the drill bits, and when locked into the tool free chuck, they will not be able to come out on their own.

Warranty

Einhell offer a three year warranty for the drill and batteries when the product is registered online. They also offer a separate, 10 year warranty on the motor for added peace of mind. I found that to be a nice addition on top of the standard 3 year warranty, and certainly not something that other brands do.

Value For Money

As of July 2026, the Einhell TP-CD 18/70 can be purchased for just under £130. Considering that this also includes a charger, two batteries, and a case, this is exceptionally value for money.

For the length of fencing I installed, I was quoted £1,400 for this. I was able to get the wood for £230, the screws for £50 and the drill for £127. By buying this high quality drill, it let me complete the task to a high standard, in a quick time frame and also saving me a lot of money in the process.

I would say that this drill offers excellent value for money and it’s high quality is ideal for DIYers and professionals alike.
