Choosing a pipe cutter is something that sounds like an easy task. However, there are many on the market and as such, it’s important to choose the best pipe cutter to ensure you get a clean finish every time you use it.
Knipex TubiX Pipe Cutter 6-35mm
I’ve always been a fan of Knipex tools as they’re always extremely well built and offer great value for money. With that in mind, I decided to try out their TubiX pipe cutter. I’ll point out that it is a bit more expensive than some other pipe cutters on the market. However, the price of it is justified.
For starters, you’re able to cut quite a range of diameters with the TubiX. This starts at 6mm all the way up to 35mm. In addition to this, the maximum thickness of tubing that you can cut is 2mm. This is a big bonus for those that are frequently cutting differing diameters, and is a bonus over other cutters that have a more limited cutting diameter.
The TubiX is able to cut copper, brass and stainless steel pipework, so again, quite a range with it. You cannot however cut plastic pipes with this.
When it came time to cutting pipes with this, I was really pleased with how easy it is to adjust the cutting wheel against the pipe. Each time I used it, the cut was flawless. It was so easy to get an amazing finish each time, and it was effortless to spin the tool around the pipe. It also feels comfortable in the hand, and at no point did my hand or wrist get tired with spinning the tool around.
It was also interesting to see that the TubiX has a deburring tool on it so that you can even out the finish should you need to do so. I believe this is included so that when the cutting wheel starts to lose its sharpness, you can still get a great overall finish.
As an added bonus, Knipex also include a spare cutting wheel in the handle so that when the original does start to become blunt, you won’t be left without a trustworthy cutter.
If you need to be cutting a wide array of pipe diameters and will be carrying out this task a lot, then the Knipex TubiX is the pipe cutter for you.

Knipex BiX Plastic Pipe Cutter
Knipex have quite a few plastic pipe cutters in their range, but instead of the cutters that are like scissors, I opted for the more conventional style of pipe cutter.
Much like the metal pipe cutter mentioned above, the BiX allows you to cut numerous diameters of pipe, without the need to resort to a different cutter each time. In this case, you can cut pipes from 20mm to 50mm with a ticknes of up to 2.4mm for plastic pipes, or 3.5mm for plastic pipes which contain a foam core.
Whilst you might not need that initially, it’s good to know that the option is there for you in the future.
With respect to the cutting, regardless the diameter of the pipe in question, it was very easy to clamp the cutter around the pipe. In addition to this, it was also very easy to get a quick and clean cut each time I used it. It was comfortable to hold and never caused me any issues when carrying out the cut.
I also really like that you can rotate the blade should you need to cut a sealing sleeve. This is a nice addition that you don’t see with many plastic pipe cutters.
Even better is the fact that there are 2 spare blades included in the box. More can be purchased as well, so you don’t need to dispose of the tool afterwards.
For excel, quick and cost effective plastic pipe cutting, the Knipex BiX is the option you should choose.
- Cuts unreinforced plastic pipes from Ø 20 to 50 mm with a wall thickness of up to 2.4 mm

Ox Pro Ratchet Copper Pipe Cutter
For those that need to cut either 15mm or 22mm pipes, but don’t want to spend a considerable sum of money on a cutter, the Ox Pro Ratchet cutter is a great option.
The cutter can be bought as either a 15mm or 22mm cutter, but regardless of the diameter, it still does a great job.
I really like that you don’t need to spin the pipe cutter all the way around the pipe. Thanks to the ratchet mechanism, you only need to give it a quarter turn back and forth, which is more than enough to cut through a copper pipe in a short period of time.
The results from this were fantastic and I didn’t need to deburr the pipework afterwards, either. It is also a great size, and when using it, I didn’t having any cramp or discomfort (unlike some of the very cheap pipe cutters on the market). It’s also a sturdy device and the ratchet mechanism felt as good after 30 cuts as it did after the first cut.
If you’re only doing a small amount of cutting work on copper pipes, then this is the option that I would suggest to you. The cutting wheels will last a long time, and you can also replace them when the time comes.
