There are times when it comes to painting that it’s much better to use a paint sprayer as opposed to a roller or brush. For some, it’s personal preference to use a sprayer, and for others, it’s for efficiency. Regardless of the reason behind this, paint sprayers can be an excellent addition to your painting supplies.

In order to assist you in finding the one that is right for you, I have tested various paint sprayers in order to give you an informed opinion on what the best one is. I would point out though that when it comes to paint sprayers, it is often better to spend a bit more on them, rather than purchasing a cheaper item. The reason for this is that the cheaper products can actually end up resulting in a poor finish, meaning that you would need to carry out the same task several times.

Wagner 590 Flexio

The Wagner 590 is a really fantastic paint sprayer that has a lot of great features. What I like about it when compared to other paint sprayers is the fact that it doesn’t have a separate compressor that you need to carry around with as well as the sprayer itself. Instead, the paint sprayer plugs right into the mains.

When I was testing this, I tried it on the internal walls using an emulsion. I found that I needed to dilute the paint down by 15% which is something that Wagner do recommend. It also however worked great when painting external fences as well as metal gates using a variety of different paints.

Included in the kit is the sprayer itself, as well as two reservoirs. One is 1,300ml and the other has a capacity of 800ml. Using the 1,300ml sprayer was more than enough for more to fully repaint a living room. The entire process took me just under a half hour.

Not only did the finish look great, but I didn’t experience any pain in my wrist that I would otherwise have gotten whilst using a paint roller. On average, it is apply to paint 15m2 in 6 minutes. I generally like to take my time when spraying, but I would say that this definitely is doable.

The spray nozzle can also be adjusted to allow you to cut in properly as well with the paint. It comes in at a great price point and takes out the cumbersome work of having to clean out painting trays, brushes and rollers after the work is done.

Bosch PFS 3000-2

The Bosch PFS 3000-2 is a great paint sprayer which will cover the desired area a bit slower than the Wagner 590, with the coverage being 2m2 per minute.

The PSF 3000-2 is the mid range priced sprayer on this list, but I was blown away with the quality of it.

One thing that might be a deal breaker for some is that the compressor is a separate component, as opposed to the Wagner 590 which has it built into the sprayer. However, Bosch have included a shoulder strap on the compressor, and it is actually pretty light so there’s no real worry for fatigue when using this unit. In addition to this, the hose between the reservoir and compressor is 2 metres long, so you could even put the compressor on the ground depending on what it is you’re painting.

On the PSF 3000-2, there is also only one paint reservoir which has a capacity of 1 litre which may also be a sticking point for some.

The finish that I achieved when using it really was great. In particular, it handled metal paint extremely well and it was able to carry out the job in a short time frame. Likewise with varnish for a fence, it did the job in no time at all. The unit itself feels sturdy and substantial and it was a genuine pleasure to use this. Painting large fence panels can be time consuming and isn’t the most fun of activities, but I genuinely enjoyed using it for this task.

NoCry 1000ml Paint Sprayer

The NoCry is the cheapest option on this list, but I couldn’t not include it after the results I got from it.

Off the bat, it has (as it’s name would suggest) a 1 litre paint tank in it.

The quality of the finish from it was great, especially at that price point. I felt that the 1 litre tank was more than enough to paint several walls in a short time frame although for me, it wasn’t as quick as the Wagner 590 or Bosch PSF 3000-2.

The unit itself is fairly light, and like the Wagner it doesn’t have a separate compressor for it, either. This really made it easy to maneuver in tighter spots. This was aided further by the addition of 3 different spray patterns to get the perfect finish regardless of the job that was carried out. In addition to this, there are 4 different sized tips included with the NoCry which is a really nice bonus which isn’t something I’ve seen with other sprayers at this price point.

When I had picked it up in order to test it, I was curious to see how it would deal with varnishes and metal paints since this can normally be the downfall of cheaper sprayers. The NoCry carried out the task with ease with me only needing to go over on or two spots on a metal gate.

It also worked great on decking as well, which is something that really needs to be kept on top of in terms of maintenance.

To top things off, NoCry have included a 4 year warranty should anything go wrong. If you’re on a tight budget and needing a paint sprayer then this is the option to go for.
