I’ve covered ratchet screwdrivers elsewhere on the site. However, there are times where an electric screwdriver would be more beneficial. Having said that, it can be tough to pick out the best electric screwdrivers on the market due to there being so many of them.

Electric screwdrivers are a great option for those that want to carry out their DIY tasks quickly. They are also ideal for those that may have reduced movement in the hands and wrists, but do not want to invest their money in a more costly drill driver.

Testing Procedure

I tested all of these electric screwdrivers by building 4 identical Ikea bathroom cabinets. I also built a desktop PC using these screwdrivers. Rather than building 4 identical PCs, after one was completed, I dismantled it by using a ratchet screwdriver and then rebuilt it with the next electric screwdriver in the testing process. These screwdrivers were purchased with my own money, and more information on the editorial standards can be found at this page.

To assess how well the screwdrivers work at removing screws, I purchased 4 identical Blu-Ray players and removed all screws from each unit

The removal process was expanded further by removing the screws from existing ceiling lights, and then using the screwdrivers to wire up new lights.

I also tested the discharge rate of the battery by charging them all to their maximum capacity and then not using them for 6 weeks.  The total run time from a single charge was also tested.

I also used the bits that came with the screwdrivers to eliminate any testing bias. After all tests were completed, I then continued to use all of these screwdrivers as and when required. 6 months after the initial tests were completed, the same tests were performed again. This was done to assess if there was any degradation of the battery, or motor from when the initial testing was carried out.

Bosch Go  3 Professional Electric Screwdriver

I’m a big fan of the Bosch range, especially their professional line up. Due to this, I was  extremely curious to see how their Professional electric screwdriver variant performs.

The screwdriver feels comfortable in the hand, even during prolonged periods of use.

There is only 1 speed setting on this. However, there are 7 different torque settings. The benefit of this is that you can select the appropriate torque for your specific needs, without it causing damage to the screw, or the item you’re screwing in to.

I also really like the fact that you can operate it in two ways. The first is to hold down the button to operate it. The second option is to gently push the screwdriver into the screw. This will start the motor for you. Another plus point is that you can select the screwdriver to go in reverse to remove screws as well. Not all electric screwdrivers offer this, and it is a great feature that Bosch has included.

With respect to the testing times, I was able to build the Ikea cabinet in 14 minutes using this. The build time for the PC was 18 minutes and dismantling the Blu-Ray player took 16 minutes.

For the old light removal and new light install, this took me 6 minutes. This is a screwdriver that can carry out numerous tasks in a short time. The torque adjustment wheel is well made, and is easy to switch between settings depending on the task.

The addition of a light is not something that every manufacturer has included. The light on the Go 3 is bright, and when carrying out the 6month re-evaluation, it is still as bright as it was when originally bought.

The screwdriver also comes with a USB-C charging cable, along with a high quality storage case, as you would expect from the Professional range. I measured the charging  time to be 85  to 90minutes and I was able to get 3.5hours out of a single charge. After leaving the battery for 6 months, I tested it again and I was able to get 3 hours use from it. This is a good discharge rate.

There is also a bit extender, as well as 8 screwdriver bits in the box. I would have liked to have seen more bits included, especially since it’s one of the pricier electric screwdrivers on the market.

However, it will accept any ¼” hex screwdriver bit, so you’re not tied to the Bosch line up. It is also the case that you may already have a wide array of bits anyway. Speaking of the bits, I never at any point found them to be loose in the screwdriver, nor was it difficult to swap them around.

Due to it being a Professional tool, Bosch provide a 3 year warranty once the tool has been registered on their portal.

At the time of writing in September 2025, the price of the Bosch Go 3 is around the £70 mark. I feel that this price is fair for an efficient and reliable screwdriver. This is an excellent electric screwdriver and one that I highly recommend.

Worx WX240 Screwdriver

Worx have a few electric screwdrivers in their lineup, but I wanted to take a look at their newest offering, the WX240. Much like the Bosch Professional listed above, this is in the same form factor as a screwdriver.

It has adjustable torque setting. In this case, there are 3 different settings available. Whilst not as many as the Bosch above, this is two thirds of the price of that one, so it’s a fair enough trade off.

In the variety of tasks I used this on, I was able to get the work done. It did take a tad longer than when using the Bosch, but it was still quicker than doing it with a manual screwdriver.

I also really like how ergonomic this offering from Worx is as well. It feels great in the hand, and activating the motor is very easy thanks to the excellent button on the screwdriver.

By pressing the up or down button, it allows you to screw or unscrew the screw in question. You can’t, however, activate the motor by pushing the driver into the screw.

With respect to changing the torque settings on the WX240, this too is a breeze thanks to the straightforward system of pushing button 1, 2 or 3.

There is also an LED light on the screwdriver. It isn’t overly bright, but it does the job in illuminating darker areas that you might otherwise struggle with.

The charging time via USB C is around the 90 minute mark, and off of one charge I was able to get 50 minutes of continuous use. After fully charging it and leaving it for 6 months, I was able to get 34 minutes from the screwdriver, so it’s not too bad of a discharge rate.

Worx also offer a 3 year warranty, as long as it is registered within 30 days of purchase.

As an added bonus, there are 24 bits included in the case. This is a big improvement over the Bosch Professional screwdriver above. Even better is that you can use any standard screwdriver bit in the Worx WX240, so you’ll be fine in the event you had to loose a bit.

With respect to building the cabinet, it took me 16 minutes with the Worx screwdriver, which is still a respectable time.  Building the PC required 19 minutes and dismantling the Blu Ray plyer needed 11 minutes.

When it came time to removing the old light and putting up the new one, this was an 8 minute task.

I was really impressed with how well this performed at this price point, and if you’re in the market for a high quality electric screwdriver without spending a considerable amount of money on it, the Worx is the option for you. As of September 2025 this is available for just under £40.

Bosch IXO Cordless Screwdriver

If you’re looking for a no frills screwdriver that you can use now and again for DIY tasks around the house, the IXO from Bosch is a great option.

It’s the lowest priced on this list (coming in at under £30), but you’re also getting the high quality that comes with Bosch at this price point.

The IXO is in the shape of a small drill, which I found really helpful when using it in tight spots. Despite it being smaller than the other two screwdrivers listed above, it still felt really good in the hand, and also of high quality.

Likewise, it was also able to carry out all of the tasks I threw at it. It did take a tad longer than the other two above, but at the same time, you’re saving a lot of money if you go for this option.

What surprised me as well was the quality of the light on the IXO. This is very bright for such a small unit and was a welcome addition what is already an excellent package. This was brighter than the light on the Worx mentioned above.

You do get 10 screwdriver bits included in the box, which should be more than enough to get you started. It also accepts 1/4” bits so you can use any bit brand you like with the IXO.

You can also buy other attachments so that you can improve its functionality, such as an angle attachment.

One downside is that it is a micro USB cable to charge it, whilst the other two on this list charge via USB C. Micro USB devices charge slower than USB C variants.

It isn’t a massive deal breaker, but one that I felt that I should point out.

I was able to get 70 minutes out of a single charge and the charging time was just under 3 hours. After leaving it for 6 months, I was able to use it for 50 minutes before it needed to be recharged which is a good discharge rate.

In terms of performance, it was the slowest on the list.

The cabinet build time was 24 minutes and the PC build time was 21 minutes. I was able to dismantle the Blu Ray player in 11 minutes and the old light could be removed and the new one installed in 14 minutes. Regardless, I was very impressed and extremely happy using the Bosch IXO. It surpassed all my expectations every time I used it, and it’s something I will continue to use around the house.

As of September 2025  the Bosch IXO is available for just over £30. I would say that this is geared more towards those that want to carry out odd jobs around the house. It is perfectly capable of carrying out a variety of tasks, but it will take longer to do so.
