Leaf blowers are an excellent tool to have when it comes to maintaining your garden. However, they’re not solely for dealing with leaves.
They can also be a great way to blow away grass clippings after you’ve cut your lawn. Some leaf blowers also have a suction function as well. In addition to this, there are also some which are cordless. Due to this, it can be a bit of a minefield to choose which one to buy.
I have been researching and testing the best leaf blowers on the market for the past few years now, which has led me to the writing this article to let you know which ones you should consider.
Hyundai HYBV3000E2 3000W Leaf Blower
Hyundai have a lot of tools in their landscaping repertoire, so it made sense for me to check out their leaf blower. They have quite a few on the market, but I opted to try out this version since it is the lowest priced in the range. It is also the upgraded version of this blower, with a few refinements here and there.
The leaf blower is a corded option, but it has a 12m cable on it, which should be more than enough for a lot of users. It can of course be used with an extension cable if need be.
It is a very lightweight blower, and I found it very easy to hold, thanks to it having two handles on it. This was without using the included shoulder strap on it. It was also easy to move around, thanks to the wheels on it.
What I really like about it is that it blows away leaves and debris, as well as being able to suck these up. Regardless of the function you’re using, you can select the speed of the motor to allow you to gently blow/suck material, to full on blasting it half way across the universe! Okay, so maybe not that powerful, but when on full pelt, this really blows hard.
It works very well at blowing away leaves, even if these are wet. However, when it comes to sucking up leaves, these must not be wet as it can damage the motor when doing so. When sucking up dry leaves, there is also a mulching function as well so that more can fit in the 45l collection bag.
This did a good job at doing this, and really meant that for bigger gardens, I didn’t need to empty the bag as often.
I also really liked how well this picked up the grass cuttings after I have cut the grass and used a strimmer on it. Rather than spending a considerable amount of time using a brush to clean this up, I was able to cut this time to under 10 minutes. With the wheels on the blower, I found it very similar to vacuuming a floor when picking up the cuttings. It also isn’t overly noisy either, which is another great feature.
As an added bonus, you can also extend the length of the blower, or decrease the length should you wish. This is great for those of different heights to make the overall experience more comfortable as you don’t need to be hunched over to use it.
It also comes with a 3 year parts and labour warranty from Hyundai, so you’ve got excellent peace of mind with this.
If you’re looking for a highly reputable brand, at a low price point then this is the option for you.

Bosch Universal GardenTidy 3000
The Bosch Universal GardenTidy 3000 is a powerful, corded leaf blower and vacuum. Compared to the Hyundai, its top speed is 7mph faster, with it topping out at 177mph.
It is a tad heavier than the Hyundai as well, but is less than 1kg heavier.
I used this on a lot of leaves, and it really made short work of blowing them away. The same is true of grass cuttings as well. The speed of the motor can be easily adjusted using the knob on the top of the unit. I did notice that when it comes to blowing material, you do feel the difference with the extra 7mph.
As mentioned, it also has a vacuum function on it as well. Unlike the Hyundai that can have the feature swapped over at a flick of a switch, the Bosch requires you to swap out the entire nozzle. This swaps out as a nozzle with a larger diameter, allowing you to pick up more material. It isn’t a major deal breaker to swap these out, but it does mean you’ll always have an additional attachment taking up space in your garage or shed.
I found the vacuum on this to be excellent. I did try using it to pick up wet leaves, and it did a good job of it, and it also mulches it up exceptionally well thanks to the metal fan blades on it. However, Bosch don’t say in the manual if you should or shouldn’t pick up wet leaves, so it’s probably best to wait until they’re dry.
Having said that, I did find that this did pick up cuttings, debris and leaves quicker than the Hyundai. It also has a 50l collection bag and thanks to the way it mulches up the leaves, it really means you can collect a lot of leaves before you need to empty the bag.
There is also a 3 year warranty included with it. The caveat with this though is that this is, on average £40 more expensive than the Hyundai. However, if you want to vacuum and blow away debris in a quicker time frame, then this is the option for you.

Greenworks GD24X2ABK2X Cordless Leaf Blower
If you’re looking for a lightweight, powerful cordless leaf blower, this offering from Greenworks is an excellent option. In the box, there are 2 batteries, a charger and also the leaf blower itself.
When it comes to blowing leaves and debris, it is slightly less powerful on paper when compared to the two leaf blowers above. However, it also has a specially tapered nozzle end which concentrates the power and makes it really powerful. I used this to blow away wet leaves that had clumped together and it really did move them by a fair amount. When using the turbo mode on it, it made even shorter work of shifting all forms of debris.
In addition to this, you can also adjust the speed of the motor easily by pushing down on the trigger. I found that the option to hold the set speed of the blower to be a nice touch as well and certainly helped to prevent hand fatigue.
I also liked that since it was fairly light, it was easy to move into tight spots to blow out leaves, twigs and grass cuttings to ensure that there was a clean finish.
It should be noted though that this leaf blower does not have a vacuum function on it.
It is also important to cover the battery life on it. On average, you will get 20 minutes of use per included battery. This can be extended by using it on its lowest speed setting. When engaging the turbo mode, this did suck away the battery life, but it also significantly reduced the time needed to blow the leaves and debris away, so it’s a compromise. I found that the battery life to be more than adequate for it’s function, and since there are 2 batteries, you should never be caught short.
The charging time for both batteries is also decent, with it taking 2 hours to do this. Importantly though is the fact that the batteries did not discharge quickly on me if they hadn’t been used for a few weeks, showing that they are of high quality. These batteries can also be used in other compatible Greenworks products.
Greenworks also back the leaf blower with a 3 year warranty, and they give a 2 year warranty on the batteries.
If you’re looking for a high quality cordless leaf blower, and you don’t need a vacuum function, the Greenworks GD24X2ABK2X is the option for you.
