When it comes to keeping on top of your garden, it’s crucial that you have one of the bets hose spray guns on the market. The reason for this is that it will be able to keep your lawn and also plants well watered, without getting you wet in the process.
There are unfortunately a lot of cheap and nasty hose spray guns on the market, and with that in mind, I’ve tested several to let you know which one you should spend your hard earned cash on.
Gardena Premium Multi Sprayer
Gardena have high quality garden products which are made in Germany. I’ve been using quite a few of their products for years, and I was curious to see how well it performs.
As the name suggests, this is a premium product. I really like how sturdy this feels. I’ve dropped it various times on both concrete slabs and monoblock driveways and in spite of this, it looks as though it hasn’t been dropped at all.
More importantly, it still works as well as it did the day I took it out of the box. There are 5 different spray patterns to this. It’s very easy to swap between the different patterns, and I found that these were all useful for use in and around the garden. They were also great for cleaning the car was well when I didn’t want to lug out the pressure washer.
I found it to be very comfortable to hold for prolonged periods of time, and didn’t have any issues with holding down the trigger either. However, there is also the option to lock the trigger in so that you don’t need to hold this down.
This is a nice bonus to an already great spray gun. It feels and performs like a high quality hose spray gun. It’s currently being sold for just over £30, which I can appreciate is expensive. However, after 2 years of solid use, it is still performing extremely well for me and it is one that I’m very happy to recommend. During my ongoing use of it, it has never leaked on me, either.

Flopro 70300746 Metal Hose Spray Gun
Flopro are a relatively new garden accessory company, so I wanted to see what their products are like. I have only been able to test this option for the last 12 months, however, this has also given me enough time to assess if it is worth it or not.
The Flopro is a tad smaller than the Gardena option above, however, I still found this to be comfortable for long periods of time, but not as long as the Gardena. Bear in mind though that I’ve got massive hands and not everyone else reading this will have this. Much like the Gardena as well, I dropped this several times and it did not have any impact to its appearance or functionality.
This is in part thanks to how well it has been put together, as well as it being comprised of metal. On the Flopro, there are 6 different spray patterns on it, all of which are very useful. This ranges from a fine mist to a jet spray.
I found that it was very easy to switch between these, and I didn’t have any issues, or leaking from the wheel to change it the pattern.
One thing that I thought was interesting with this is that there isn’t a trigger on it. Instead, there’s a small, easy to use lever at the top of the gun. This is used to control the flow rate of the water, and also means that you don’t need to hold it down either.
That’s quite an interesting idea that I’ve only seen in extremely high priced hose spray guns, and certainly not one at just under £20. If you’re wanting a cheaper alternative to the Gardena, but still performs extremely well, this is the option for you.
- 6 PATTERN SPRAY GUN: rose, fine, soft, mist, jet, fan & fill for all garden watering tasks. Ideal for pots, containers and in the greenhouse.

Spear & Jackson BWF26 Multi-Function Spray Gun
Spear & Jackson are another brand in the garden care space, and they’ve got quite a few spray guns in their range. This version was the one I decided to pick up and put it through it’s paces. I’ve been using it for a few years now, and I’ve been happy with how well it works.
Again, like the others on this list, I’ve dropped it a few times, and it’s survived well after this.
This is the smallest spray gun on this list, but it’s still comfortable for medium to long periods of time. It has the most spray settings on the spray guns covered here, with it offering 7. I found it easy to change to each pattern and they all offered a great degree of difference between them.
Unlike the other items mentioned here, there is no option to automatically keep the water flowing through it. Instead, you need to tighten up a grub screw at the top of the unit. It’s not a deal breaker by any means, but it’s a bit more cumbersome in this regard when compared to the Gardena or the Flopro.
Regardless, I found that it produced great results each time I used it and I did not experience any leaking from it either. If you’re looking for a great quality hose spray gun that you won’t be using for prolonged periods of time in one go, this is a great option.
- A choice of seven flow functions: Jet, shower, cone, mist, soaker, centre and flat
