Elsewhere on the site, I’ve talked about the best electric showers. However, what if it’s just the case that your shower is fine, but you’re needing a new shower head?

Thankfully, you can buy a new shower head on it’s on. That way you’ll save a lot of money when comparing it to a full shower system. I’ve tested several shower heads on the market when using the same shower to see how they perform and you can read about my picks for the best shower head, below.

Hansgrohe Pulsify Select S Shower Head

Hansgrohe are well known for their kitchen and bathroom taps being of extremely high quality. Thankfully, their Pulsify Select S shower head is also of the same high quality as well.

There are a lot of great plus points with it. The first is the price; I’ve never seen it go higher than £50 (and when there’s sales on, it can go down pretty low). I always encourage people to steer clear of £10 shower heads for the fact that with the amount of water going through them, the one’s at that price point won’t last long at all.

In the case of the Pulsify Select S, you’re getting a lot of bang for your buck. It has 3 different modes on it. Unlike some shower heads that require you to twist part of the system to change mode (which can be tricky with soapy hands), the Pulsify Select S changes modes with the touch of a button.

It’s really easy to do, and the mode changes very quickly. This could also be of great benefit to those that don’t have a lot of strength in their hands, but want the option to change the spray options of their shower head.

The three spray options are a light rain effect, a heavy rain effect and also a concentrated stream of water in a jet. All three of these options give a great shower.

In addition to this, there is also a filtration system within it. Not only does it mean that it greatly reduces the potential for contaminants to enter the shower head, but it also reduces the maximum consumption of the head itself to 9 litres per minute. I tested this and the maximum water usage in a minute was just over 8 litres. For those that are on water meters with high costs, it should give them peace of mind that the maximum usage isn’t exceeded whilst giving a great shower.

For those that live in hardwater areas, limescale buildup can cause a lot of damage to shower heads. With the Pulsify Select S, the silicone head itself cleans up extremely easily meaning that the limescale doesn’t build up on it.

Throughout the various tests I’ve done with it, I’ve always been extremely happy and it is worth every penny. The quality of shower that you get with it is great.

Mira 4 Mode Shower Head

Mira are well known for making fantastic showers, and this shower head is a great addition to any setup, regardless if it is a Mira shower or not.

The shower head is extremely well built, and it also has four different spray patterns. What I found really interesting about it is that to change the spray pattern on it, the insert on the head is spun around. This is a unique way to change the pattern that I’ve never seen in a shower head before.

It’s extremely easy to do it, and during the vigorous testing, the mechanism felt as good 6 months on from the first time I tested it out.

It gave a very rewarding shower every time that I have used it.

In addition to this, it is of extremely high quality. It feels like a robust and high quality item (which you would expect at this price point).

One thing that it doesn’t have is a flow restrictor, so if you live in an area with high water bills, this might not be the one for you. Having said that, with the prices of electricity anyway, you wouldn’t want to be in a shower for more than 5 minutes anyway. With this shower head, you’ll get an effective shower in that time.

Thankfully limescale build up on the head isn’t an issue either. The silicone nozzles on the head are cleaned extremely quick and easily. I have given one of these to a friend that lives in a hard water area and they haven’t had any issues with this 6 months on. All they do is give it a quick rub every day with a microfibre cloth to prevent the limescale from building up.

This is a fantastic shower head and a great addition to any bathroom.
